Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: Fic NC-17, Art SFW
Summary: Jared is a shy, reclusive fourteen year old omega who lives day to day, surviving the best he can. With the encouragement of his school librarian, he reads extra books for fun, preferring to live within the stories he reads instead of his actual living situation. His current book is Mary Renault’s WWII, gay classic, The Charioteer. He is captivated by the relationship between the three central characters—Laurie, Andrew, and Ralph—and the novel becomes integral to getting through another day. A few weeks before the annual dance, Alpha Detective Jensen Ackles from the Department of Omega Care, visits the high school and notices Jared by the way he holds his backpack. This seemingly casual observation launches an investigation that irrevocably changes everyone involved—for better and worse.

Mild spoilers for the fic in the text behind the cut. Picture credits to Creation Entertainment, grumpyjackles, and promotional shots via Google.

I wanted to do something to represent the first time Jared and Jensen meet. At this point in the story especially, Jared's self-worth is at an all-time low, and he very much wants to disappear into himself. Jensen is first seen as a very imposing figure, particularly because of his Alpha status.

The novel "The Charioteer" is a big influence in the fic and on Jared. I wanted to represent that in some way in the art, so the font used throughout and some of the classical imagery are inspired by various aspects of the novel.

One of the bits of imagery that struck me was of Jared lying back and watching the clouds, searching for answers in a really terrible world. I thought of him using those moments to drift outside of himself in the tougher moments, so I was pleased when the image was later incorporated into the scene in the hospital.

Finally, I knew I had to do something for one of the happiest moments in the fic, and a scene of both levity and emotion.

Also, some icons and dividers!

NOW GO READ THE STORY!
