"Sam knows the moment that Castiel puts his hand on his forehead that he was never going to use those two days to begin with." I have to wonder how seriously Sam ever considered going back to her--it seems likely he never considered it a truly viable option. Not with Dean out there and there always existing the possibility that he could show up at the door in the middle of the night. Sammy's a smart guy, and I think (hope) he's learned something from history. Jessica died, and she never knew about his real life; Dean's relationship with Lisa failed when they tried to maintain it... I think returning to Dean was really the only option that will work, but I'm so glad that Dean gave Sam the room to make that decision on his own and that Sam chose to go back and chose Dean over Amelia.
Thanks so much for writing and sharing this! I love all of it, but particularly the scene with Sam and Cas, seeing how that could have gone down. I'd really like someone to tell Sammy a little about Purgatory! Good grief.
