You know, every other time Sam's left, Dean never let him go. He fought it every time. Whether he voiced it or not, he never wanted to let it happen. Dean finally giving voice, assent and not-quite-permission but a sad acceptance, I think Sam needed that. To know Dean loved him enough to let him go. That Dean still LOVED Sam.
I loved the park bench with Sam and Cas. I sure hope we get more of those two in moments together, I think they both care more about each other than they say. Cas openly admires Dean, but Sam's always possessed a kind of strength that amazes Cas, IMHO.
