tebtosca: (Dean really Carver?)
[personal profile] tebtosca
Since I stopped recapping this year (thank God lol), I've done most of my show speculating/analysis over in poor [livejournal.com profile] ash48's journal (I'm so sorry, Ash!) But I've been thinking the past few days about what I think is going to happen as we come to the final chapter of Season Nein.

Behind the cut are my wild predictions of what I think is going to happen by the end of the finale, not what will carry over into season 10. These are not spoilers, just based solely on speculation based on what has happened so far.

Join me in the comment section with your own speculation. Feel free to debate any of my points and add your own -- we'll check back in after the finale and see if any of us were right!

  • Gadreel turns on Metatron

  • Metatron dead/gone and Heaven open

  • Cas gets his grace back

  • Abaddon dead by Dean's hand

  • Crowley/Cain double-cross exposed

  • Dean goes full darkside

  • The audience realizes in a shocking twist that Sam really does love his brother!

  • INCEST (shhh, go with it)

Note: I'm running under my continued theory that Carver is re-doing Kripke's S4/5 arc, with huge nods also to S3. That colors my views of a lot of stuff.

I wish to subscribe to your newsletter! I am wondering if any of the above will be pushed into S10. Also someone has to kill Crowley at some point - don't they?

From Carver's new interviews, it sounds like he's going to manage to get a lot of stuff in at the end of this season, so I think it's possible we'll get the stuff above before it ends. I do think that several things will be pushed to season ten, like the resolution of the Dark Dean arc, which should hopefully coincide with the resolution (for now anyway lol) of the brotherly angst. It makes sense narratively that there will be symmetry between Sam not saving Dean from purgatory at the beginning of Carver's 3-year plan, and him helping to bring Dean back from the darkside. And since I believe he's re-vamping S4/5, we'll probably see parallels to Swan Song in some capacity. I think this arc is as much a redemptive story for Sam and the brother relationship as it is for Dean.

I'm also about 75% sure (in my head) that Carver is going to wrap the angels and Cas' journey up next season, culminating in him being the one to finally "fix" Heaven and restore it to how it was supposed to be. I've always thought of Cas' time as a human as a way to make him a better angel, in order for him to finally understand what God was doing when he created humanity. It's actually a lovely arc, and the one that makes the most sense in my brain lol.

Crowley is a cockroach. He'll live forever! :P

And there is no doubt in my mind that they are locked-in for S11. No final season announcement means J2 signed on the dotted line to get that diaper money haha.

My friend Linda and I have been unpacking this reading together since early last year, but she's a MUCH better meta writer than I am, so take a look at this meta (http://bookdal.tumblr.com/post/80168642020/brief-meta-thoughts-on-supernatural-season-9) that she wrote the other day to explain some of the thinking behind it.

In many basic ways, there are blatant parallels (the Mark = demon blood, Crowley = Ruby) but I think Carver's intent behind it is to "fix" the issues that Kripke either let linger or romanticized.

Can we get Abaddon skin-riding Sam at some point? Ya think? Or at least a shirtless scene, restoring the tattoo. Two thumbs way WAY up for darkside!Dean, especially if he come reeeeeally close to killing Sam. When Abaddon is in him. My heart will explode.

I think we should totally impel Jensen to do the stormtrooper twerk for the gag reel. If Abaddon dies I will cry blood tears. She's the only bad guy that can be taken seriously. Not really digging the slightly pitiful version of Crowley.

I don't care if it's demon blood 2.0 and Crowley is playing Ruby 3.0 (he played ruby for Cas already). Dean has a myth arc. And I really, really want Cain/Dean sex. Or Dean/Abaddon hate sex.

What if the last episode foreshadowed what may happen? Dean brainwashed into becoming the King/Queen of Hell's tool/sex slave.

Have you seen the sneak peek? Virile . . . heh.

From: [identity profile] tebtosca.livejournal.com
But they really haven't done anything with Abaddon. Think about it for a minute -- if the character wasn't played by an actress with such charm, would it be half as interesting?

I'm happy Dean has the mytharc, but I think that Carver needs to not fall into the trap of flipping that dynamic but not giving Sam the emotional POV that Dean always has when Sam has the mytharc.

Dean is being manipulated, that's quite obvious!

From: [identity profile] skeletncloset.livejournal.com
I need Abaddon in my life. And you're right. She's a two-dimensional character on paper, but Alaina has made her come alive. She really wouldn't be as successful a character if not for Alaina. I guess Abaddon/Dean hate sex is too much to ask for, huh?

Gonna cry in my corner.

Sam is not as charming. For someone who Carver deems "grown up", he's been playing the sulky teenager pretty well.

Date: 2014-03-22 01:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] skeletncloset.livejournal.com
And Cain? If he kills Cain then Dean will have to wear the mark forever. And forever is a long time. Nothing would be worse than never being reunited with Sam ever. Before they always had hope they would share a heaven, but if Dean is doomed to walk the earth as an exile like Cain did, then he does have something to lose. ATM he doesn't believe Sam wants him around so it's not an issue.

All I want is for Sam to woo Dean back to bouncing on his dick. That's it. i want it to be a slow process. A quick resolutions will not satisfy me.

OH.MY.GOD.

Yeah, as I said in my review, Lola was Ruby. Writer's room: "What a switcheroo! Sam was juiced on demon blood, Crowley's juiced on human blood! How about for the season finale, Dean and Cas jump into a giant hole of some kind, only not just a hole hole, THE THIRD DIMENSION! We haven't done that on the show yet. I want -since Jensen has stated that he had to do some workout for Dean-on-steroid- a shirtless Dean doing work out as an episode opening.

I won't settle for less.

So, that's my prediction/wish/fantasy/kink I'm not asking for much, right? RIGHT??!

Date: 2014-03-22 01:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tebtosca.livejournal.com
Yes, let's speculate! Shirtless Dean is actually a good guess, since Jensen and Jared seem to switch off having shirtless scenes, right? RoboSam in S6, Dean with the amazon in S7, Sam and Amelia in S8, etc

Date: 2014-03-22 01:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] etoile-etiolee.livejournal.com
Let's go back at the beginning where, in season 1, we got BOTH guys shirtless at some point.

I'm like you: I don't mind Crowley being Ruby 3.0 and Dean finally -FINALLY- having a mytharc, but if we can't have Sam's emotionnal POV like we got Dean's, it's not going to have the same impact.

And if the shocking revelation/twist that Sam does loves his brother comes too late, there won't be much sympathy left for Sam's character.

Then, angry wincest sex.

Of course.

Oooh, this could be interesting! There has to be something happening with Gadreel at the end, especially since Tahmoh is a popular actor and it would be a waste not to use him. I do think that Gadreel's a goner after this season though.

Date: 2014-03-22 01:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cuddyclothes.livejournal.com
Who's Gadreel? Oh, right, him and that guy Metatron. There was somebody named Bart--he's dead--and someone named Malachi. The angel plot is like a huge slab of tasteless fudge.

Date: 2014-03-22 02:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] zubeneschamali.livejournal.com
And there's so much potential for finding out more about Gadreel and how he was blamed for doing this one thing that was basically the end of the world as they knew it, which sounds so familiar, doesn't it? I'm sure he'll be dead by Metatron's hand before Sam gets to have any really interesting conversations with him, though.

I get the S4/5 parallels with what's happening now. There must be a reason, tell me it's what we think it is?! My hopes and wants:

I want Carver to finally put the boys on even ground by having them both realize the sacrifices they've made through the years for the other; to really "see" each other and appreciate the love and respect that's right there under the surface. I know, "no chick flick moments" has been status quo since Pilot, but it's time for them to say how they feel, dammit! Yes, LOLCanon can come into play here, I would give it a pass!

Hearing either of them truly speak from their heart is like pulling teeth and in Season 9, Sam has lost his tongue! Not literally or Dean would have a complete breakdown but I digress. Their love has always been "actions speak louder than words," but I'm selfish now. I want to hear them say the words.

If Carver is doing what I hope he is with what he calls "maturing" the brothers, this would make the most sense. Otherwise, I have no idea what his idea of maturing could be other than making them buddies who hunt together....blah no thank you. We've seen hints in the last few epis that the boys worry themselves into a frenzy when the other is in harm's way so these are positive signs. When Dean offered Sam the beer in Blade Runners, Sam breaking Dean out of his trance the mark held on him (the only one who can IMO,) and the reminiscing scene in Thinman are just a few examples of the rebuilding. They aren't there yet, and Dean has a long way to go with the mark and how it will affect him, and in turn, affect Sam. These little details are what we in fandom live for with the brothers, to see them showing true emotion to move them to a deeper understanding. Seeing them tore down to be built back up is frustrating for us to watch, but as long as it's worth it in the end - Sam saving Dean from himself and in turn realizing what Dean went through watching Sam's slide into blood addiction would be a real breakthrough. I'm giving Carver the benefit of the doubt for now, but if he screws this up, he's a bigger knob that I thought.

I was glad to hear Jared say (at Vegas Con) that Sam would not save Dean in a similar situation, but he would have done it a different way. At least he got some thoughts out there of where Sam's head is, even though it's still murky. We know Jensen is the biggest bro fan on the planet so I'm comforted that whatever is going on, he and Jared will make sure that the boys are not just hunting buddies, but truly brothers again.

and then to finish up my want/hope list, after all Carver has put us through for two years, I want Wincest as Canon just BECAUSE he owes us for this fuckery!

edited for typos :|

I was just talking about this with [livejournal.com profile] nynxlynx the other day. You know the last scene in Return of the Jedi, where Luke goes to face the emperor, and the emporer basically icks the shit out of him while Darth watches, until the last little spark of humanity in Darth caves in and saves Luke and kills the emperor? That's what I predict for season finale of S9, with Abaddon = emperor, Dean = Luke and Crowley = Darth. The only problem, it leaves Sam out of the story, and who would he be anyway, Chewbaca?

Also, sometime in the future, I want to see Abaddon wearing Mrs. Tran as a meatsuit.

I really really love your idea ... But I rather predict for season 9 final : Abaddon = emperor, Dean = Vador (he is going dark side with the Mark of Cain but seeing his brother wounded, or dying would bring him back to the good side) and Sam = Luke ! Because Sam was, especially in the earlier season, Luke as Dean was Han Solo !

Everyone has come up with really good ideas. I am just hoping for the brothers to make up and for them not to drop the ball on Dean's first meaningful story arc.
Bonus would be some shirtless Dean action. LOL, yes it is our turn.
Extra special bonus for Sam to be in Deans shoes.
Since we are speculating and hoping I want a REAL brother hug, from both of them.

Season Nein. THANK YOU. *dies*

Your theories hold a lot of water here in the land of OMGNO. I have an added theory that will fit right in and cause untold angst and pain and stuff.

Sam doesn't have an anti-possession tattoo anymore. S9x23 final scene: Something horrific (Abaddon maybe) possesses Sam and *then* Dean, in all of his Cain "heat", has to... has to... KILL HIM. Fade to credits.

And then, opening scene of 10x1? WINCEST!

IDK, but what I hope is that they will use their reworking of the Cain story to bring together the holy-fuck-this-is-the-real-shit darkness of the first half of the season with the more gizmoish Mark story. The Mark seems to mostly resonate with killer!Dean/killer!Cain, and Dean's self-identification as a killing instrument IS an important aspect of his personal darkness, but the way in which Cain as brother is both a foil to Dean (Dean chose better at the apocalyptic crisis, did not preempt Sam's free will, and so Sam was ultimately able to save Sam) and a mirror to him (because I do see a relationship between Cain's fratricidal perversion of saving/love and Dean's violation of Sam and overriding of his autonomy in the Gadreel thing) not only makes the story a lot more interesting and confronts stuff Dean needs to change, it also works as structural glue to keep the relationship repair and the mytharc connected and to keep the two halves of the season together as more than Mostly Angel Stuff vs Mostly Demon Stuff.

Oh honestly no need to apologise hun!! I LOVE your thoughts! And that gif!!! :DDD

So...um.... ending S9...

Sam dies and Dean has to...no that's already been done....

Umm..

Dean disappears and Sam has to... nah...already done.

Sam's life is threatened and Dean has to...

Ok.

Finale episode - Dean is totally overcome by the Mark and tries to kill Sam. Sam tries to talk him out of it but, unlike in this episode, isn't able to (foreshadowed in that last ep) Crowley has been defeated by Abaddon and she has control of Dean. (yum!) She watches on with delicious glee as Dean is about to kill Sam (foreshadowed in the ep where Abaddon taunts Dean about her having control of his body).

Crowley is made to watch and is most upset because his favourite human - Sam - is under threat (also pissed that Abaddon has won and he's even more human as is actually feeling some sort of screwed up remorse for what's happening).

Cas makes a last ditch attempt to save Dean (and Sam) but Dean turns on Cas and kills him (but not really but we're made to think so). It all goes pear shaped so Abaddon abducts Dean leaving Sam and Crowley to wonder what the fuck as the season ends.

Gadreel and Metatron somehow open the gates of Heaven. Then Gad kills Met (redemptive Gadreel - or maybe even more power hungry than Met) and Cas ends up killing Gad. Goodbye plot device angels. Cas is urged by other angels to control Heaven but he realises leadership is not really for him.

S10. Dean and Abaddon in delicious partnership for a while (totally dark!Dean) and the alternative "team free will" will have to work out a way to get Dean back. They get him back and Carver introduces another reason for the boys to be fighting. But by the end of S10 sam will have made some almighty sacrifice and wincest will ensue.

Absolutely agree on the S4/5 thing which is why I really think they'll end it there, esp. as they've brought in Bloodlines

Gadreel turns on Metatron - Oh yes! In a last minute, Vader throwing the Emperor in a hole way (in the cage!!)

Metatron dead/gone and Heaven open - Yes, but not in a good way…I just think there'll be repercussions

Cas gets his grace back - I'd quite like him to get his BAMF back. I love him an'all but it wasn't til he offed youknowwho that I had any kind of fuzzy feelings for him.

Abaddon dead by Dean's hand - I'm not sure...I think she'll linger til S10…maybe become Dean's minion. Ooo, that would be cool.

Crowley/Cain double-cross exposed - I certainly think we'll find out what the Great Burden is this season

Dean goes full dark side - PLEASE GOD!!! I can't tell you how much I want Dean to be the Big Bad for S10. I will give up vital organs and spend 5 whole minutes in a room with Becky Rosen!

The audience realizes in a shocking twist that Sam really does love his brother! - *gasps* (see icon)

INCEST (shhh, go with it) - You mean, finally on screen right? ; )

I know people are bitching about this season but I'm really enjoying it. I want more Charlie tho, and a dream sequence with Bobby would't hurt, we haven't had a 'Balls!' in ages. And speaking of Daddy issues, a little itty bit of John in the finale, anyone? x

Dean kills his brother and goes darkside (Cain..killing the brother is unavoidable)
He teams up with Crowley after getting rid of Abbadon. Together they rule Hell untill Cas (who has taken over Heaven by that time) comes to the rescue.
He brings Sam with him and Bobby and Ellen, Missouri, Jo, Kevin!, Rufus, Gabriël, Anna and all the other victims of the series..
They shower dean with love and he sees the error of his ways, repents and lives in heaven happily ever after.

I keep thinking season 10 will be the last season because it's just such a nice number? I keep wondering if the boys are... not tired of it, but maybe if they just want to be able to put something else on their resume?

Hmmm...let's assume Crowley's running the long con. We know he only pretended to be afraid of Cain. We know that he watched the blade's effect on Dean. It was in his own self-interest to cast Gadreel out of Sam. Sam's possession tattoo has not been replaced. I can't help thinking that will play into everything at some point. Crowley is ultimately making Dean into a ferocious killing machine. He knews Dean will take out Abbadon, but somehow I don't think he'll let Dean kill Sam. But I think we'll see Crowley come out on top somehow, and he'd been planning this all along.

Part of this comes from having seen the last three eps of S8 this week. Crowley was such an incredibly evil bastard until the church. And as they have said, Crowley is Crowley.

The only flaw in this is that Crowley was the Big Bad in S8, so it wouldn't make sense to have him be the Big Bad in S10.

ETA: I have no idea where the angels fall into this arc. We've seen Bart and he's dead, we've seen Malachi for 2 minutes, and Cas has followers. Yawn.

Hey there, I'm semi-hijacking your post to let you know I friended you 'cause I don't want to miss any of your great posts and epic icons. :D

I have no idea how things are going to turn out this season, but I'll tell you one thing - I LOVE that Dean finally has a major storyline. Jensen is amazing (and so freaking HOT). I also think Sam needs a swift slap upside the head, and he needs to think before he speaks. I'm sick of him breaking his brother's heart.

I like your speculations, especially the last two. :) I have a feeling we'll be seeing Sam faced with the decision of whether or not to save Dean's life, and realizing he definitely would. I love Sam, I do, but I want to see him eat those cruel words of his.

Then again, maybe the writers will just drop the ball, as they've been known to do, and the storyline will fizzle out without a real resolution. On that subject, what about the leviathans? Aren't they still around, happily chomping people?
